Caring for the Environment

It is important that we conserve our natural fauna, and you can help by taking the following advice;

  • Western Australian law prohibits the picking of wildflowers, and offenders can expect a hefty fine of up to AUD$2,000. Instead, purchase dried wildflowers from the numerous craft and souvenir shops found all over the state.
  • Do not take domestic animals into National Parks, they are not permitted.
  • Stay on designated trails and be very careful not to trample the wildflowers. Also be careful to avoid flowers when laying out your picnic blanket.
  • Take photographs. Let others enjoy the wildflowers by leaving them undisturbed.
  • Plant wildflowers in your own garden. Many wildflowers are available at local nurseries. Buy wildflowers seeds that are native to your area. Since they are native, they should be easy to grow.
  • Remove invasive plants that are on your land. These non-native plants can take over wildflower habitat.
  • Support conservation efforts. Join a wildflower centre or program as a member or volunteer.

Remember, take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints and future generations will also get to enjoy Western Australia’s wildflowers.
